CCA High School Presents: Kiss Me Kate

Canyon Crest Academy's Envision Theater Department presents Kiss Me Kate, a crazy fun Cole Porter musical from the '40's. There are six shows, Feb. 16-24 (see cca-envision.org for details.) Leap Year Special: 2 Free Library Concerts in Feb, 2012

This February, we get 2 free concerts at the Carmel Valley Library, one on Feb. 8 and one on Feb. 29! The Friends of the Carmel Valley Library will present The Life and Music of Samuel Barber on Feb. 8. This program will explore the life and music of Samuel Barber, one of America’s greatest composers of art songs, with narration by Joanne Regenhardt, songs by soprano Janelle DeStefano, and piano accompaniment and solos by James Frimmer. Then on Feb. 29, pianist Michael Chang will perform works by Ludwig van Beethoven, Franz Liszt, Lowell Liebermann, and Sergei Prokofiev.

Free Concert at the CV Library on Jan 18, 2012

January’s free family music program, sponsored by the Friends of the Carmel Valley Library, is on Wednesday, Jan. 18 at 7:00 p.m. It will feature guitarists Arthur Golden and Chan Jenuine in a program of American folk songs, blues, rags, etc. The program will last 45 minutes. Piazza Carmel Christmas Celebration 2011

Piazza Carmel is holding it's Christmas Celebration on Saturday, December 3, 2011 from Noon to 3:00 PM. The event includes: Pictures with Santa, Kids Crafts, Real Snow, Carnival Games, Face Painter, Balloon Artist, Raffle Prizes, Petting Zoo and Performances by The Royal Dance Academy & Church's Martial Arts Studio. Jazz in the Plaza at the Del Mar Highlands Town Center

The Del Mar Highlands Town Center will have free Jazz concerts in the Plaza on Friday and Saturday nights from 6:00 to 9:00 PM during the month of December. See the Town Center Events Page for details.

Free Library Concerts, November 2011

There will be two free concerts at the CV Library in November: on Nov. 9th at 7:00 pm, a Piano, Bassoon, and Flute Trio will perform music by C P E Bach, Beethoven, Casimir Lalliet, and Elaine Fine; then on Nov. 30th at 7:00 pm, pianist Dan Yu will perform a program of music by Mozart, Liszt, Schumann, and Chopin. Shopping Center Trick-or-Treat

Piazza Carmel and the Del Mar Highlands Town Center are both having Halloween Trick-or-Treat events on Halloween Eve: Monday, October 31, 2011. The Piazza Carmel event is from 5:00 to 7:00 PM, see the Piazza Carmel Events Page for details. The Del Mar Highlands Town Center event is from 4:00 to 6:00 PM (so you can make both!), and it includes a concert featuring the Hodads. See the Town Center Events Page for more.

Free Library Concert, October 12, 2011

The Library will hold a free concert on Wednesday, October 12th at 7:00 p.m. featuring the Bach Collegium San Diego Trio. The Trio consists of soprano Anne-Marie Dicce, violinist Amy Wang, and harpsichordist Ruben Valenzuela in a program of early German chamber music by J S Bach and G F Handel. 2011 MCAS Miramar Air Show

The 2011 MCAS Miramar Air Show is right around the corner: September 30 to October 2, so be ready for some increased noise and air traffic. Specifically:

  • the Saturday night will end with fireworks and the world famous "Wall of Flame" between 8:30 - 9:00 pm.
  • aircraft for the Show will begin to arrive on Wednesday, with practice flights starting on Thursday.
  • aircraft will depart this facility through Sunday evening and into Monday.

CV Library Free Concert, New 2011-12 Season!

It's time for a new season of Free Family Music Programs at the CV Library, sponsored by the Friends of the Carmel Valley Library! The first performance will be on Wednesday, September 14th at 7:00 p.m. in the library’s community room. It will feature tenor Aleksandr Agamirzov who will perform arias and songs by Verdi, Rachmaninoff, Nicolas Brodzky, Rudolfo Falvo, Luigi Denza, Mitch Leigh, and others. Outdoor Movie at the CV Rec Center, Aug. 6

Keep your summer fun going with an event for the whole family! On Saturday, August 6th, Time Warner Cable brings you Disney’s Tangled, a free movie event for the entire family! Pack up your beach chairs and join the fun at our Moonlight Movie event at Carmel Valley Community Park, 3777 Townsgate Drive on Saturday, August 6th (upper field).  The fun starts at 5pm with Mad Science, Obstacle Courses and Master Sports Laser Tag! Pizza, popcorn, candy and drinks will be sold.  The movie starts at dusk. Bring your blankets, low-back sand chairs and the whole family for fun in the sun, games, and a movie under the stars.  Admission is free. Free Outdoor Films at Piazza Carmel, Aug 2011

The San Diego Asian Film Foundation is holding a free summer films festival at the Piazza Carmel Shopping Plaza in Carmel Valley this August.  The festival, which features family friendly films, premieres on August 3 with the film HOOK.  Dante Basco, who plays the iconic Rufio in HOOK, will be in attendance for Q+A during the kick-off event.   Entertainment begins at 7:00 pm in the Food Court, with the films starting at 8:00 pm.

There will be a free family music program at the CV Library on June 8, 2011, featuring Operatic Solos, Duets, and Trios. Sopranos Mariko Kanamitsu and Pamela Narbona, and baritone David Marshman will perform songs by Mendelssohn and arias by Offenbach, Mozart, and Donizetti from The Tales of Hoffmann, The Marriage of Figaro, Don Giovanni, The Magic Flute, The Elixir of Love, and Cosi Fan Tutte. They will be accompanied by pianist Mizue Shapiro. The program begins at 7:00 PM and will last 45 minutes. The first free concert at the Carmel Valley Library this January is on Wed., Jan. 12th at 7:00 p.m. It will explore the life of Claude Debussy: flower child, impressionist, and revolutionary, with narration by Joanne Regenhardt, vocals by Janelle DeStefano, and piano accompaniment and solos by James Frimmer. The program will last 45 minutes. The second free music program is on Wed., Jan. 26th at 6:00 p.m., and will feature several advanced flute students of Elena Yarritu. They will be accompanied by pianist Diane Snodgrass. The program will last about 90 minutes. Shopping Center Holiday Events

Piazza Carmel will hold its Christmas Event on Saturday, December 4th, 2010 from 12 to 3pm, and its Hanukah Ceremony on Sunday, December 5th at 3pm. Del Mar Highlands Town Center will have a Tree Lighting Ceremony on Thursday, December 2nd from 5:30 to 6:30 PM. Flower Hill Promenade will have a Weekend with Santa, Saturday & Sunday, December 11 & 12. the Del Mar Retailers are holding a Holiday Wonderland on Sunday, December 5th, with activities between Noon and 6:00 PM. Of course, the Del Mar Fairgrounds also has its Holiday of Lights, the San Diego Botanic Garden (Quail Gardens) has their Garden of Lights Dec 9-23 and Dec 26-30, and all the local amusement parks (see the Entertainment Page) have events, too...

Free Library Concert on Dec 8 at 7 PM

December's free concert at the Carmel Valley Library is on December 8th at 7:00 PM, featuring Semi-Sweet, a group of local musical moms who will present a program of holiday songs. Semi-Sweet was formed 11 years ago and has since performed at a variety of public and private venues in San Diego, including this library. Its members are Linda Bessey, Christine Francis, Elizabeth Ingersoll, Carolyn Johnson, Raquel Lonas, Mary Beth Rane, and Karen Schooley. The program will last 45 minutes.
