Towne Bakery coming to the Del Mar Highlands Town Center

Here's an article from the Carmel Valley News that the Del Mar Highlands Town Center will be getting a new bakery, called Towne Bakery. They write, "In addition to its traditional offerings, Towne Bakery will highlight signature items and unique creations such as 'Pie Pockets', whoopie pies, homemade puddings and cheesecakes." It looks like they'll be serving both coffee and great baked goods starting in March 2012! Hope this doesn't impact the existing Village Mill Bread Company or the French Champagne Bakery!

another bakery at the Highlands

As a 19-year resident of Carmel Valley, I've had the opportunity to shop at both Village Mill Breads and Campagne Bakery, both long-time tenants of the Del Mar Highlands Shopping Center.  Jimbo's and Ralph's markets also offer extensive selections of baked goods and breads.  Does the community benefit from yet another bakery?  The location of the new Towne Bakery and it's immediate neighbor tenant Swirls Yogurt situated in front of the fountain -- a gathering place for very young children - seems to be yet another bad decision for the neighborhood.  Maybe with all this sugar and empty calories offered in this prime location, a pediatric dental practice would do well in the space between the two shops!

re: another bakery at the highlands

...You should be happy abnout all the new and exciting places to eat at the Del Mar Highlands.

it's good, but...

I think the point is that, of all the new food places we could have, we get yet another bakery? Isn't there anything else? That, and the fact that we'd hate to lose our existing neighborhood bakeries due to adding another. I love the Village Mill bread!
